Space : She is Us

I AM HER

The Space was founded 7 years ago this month. It’s truly taken a village to become who She is.

September 15, 2017, she was born.

The idea had been in conception for over 10 years before opening. I went through teacher training and soon after completion I had a day dream that just would not leave my side. I spent years pondering the vision. Every class, every studio, every retreat I was gathering information and ideas. As well as creating connections along the way that became building blocks to the dream.

I recently read about this concept of successful relationships. They are the ones that understand two healthy, whole individuals need to stand alone and do the work by themselves so that they come together to make a partnership that has its own vibrancy. It’s like YOU and ME make the US! This “US” deserves love, attention and nurturing as well.

It is an understanding that there is a space between two people, and how those two people care for the Space between them determines the quality of their relationship.

This birthday I am consciously celebrating and drawing more awareness around the “US” that we have all created.

The Space. This place, this community, this moving and breathing thing we call the Space is one big collaboration. Some of you have brought insight, some of you have donated time, some of you have brought your wounds and others have brought scars. Many of us are learning who we are before we are told who to be. This “US” is a conglomeration of every class, student, teacher, Teacher training group, retreat, tear, laugh, intimate conversation and random smile.  What in the world would I ever say in words that can describe this place.

Walking into our 8th year as a business, I celebrate this beautiful collaboration we call the Space. I bow to her, I respect the practices/policies  we have picked up along the way, the way she holds us all, the way she is blooming and growing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of what makes the Space so incredible. The magic of this place has been created by EVERY soul who passes through its doors.

A huge part of my role at the Space has been to craft the essence, the look, the experience of Her. From the vibe of the studio to all our marketing and beyond, my focus is on creating a brand that is palpable—a brand, a product that you recognize the moment you encounter it. One that draws you in and you feel held by.

I’ve always been deeply sensitive to my environment. I’m attuned to how things smell, how they feel, and how I feel within them. Is the essence of the whole space coming through? What is the energy, or the vibe? Will I remember it or will the memory fade? Does it feel dynamic? Does it feel like it can hold me? I love the concept of "space" as a container—something dynamic and well rounded, all parts in tact. When I connect to a space in its entirety, I can see myself in my wholeness there. Our environments and the energy they hold creates our experience.

Creating a sacred container in life is not just about lighting an incense stick; it’s about the energy and intention that meet you in that action. The act itself becomes a bridge to something deeper.

I love the idea of crafting a life that offers me this same sense of sacredness—a life designed to hold me.

Practices to Create a Sacred Space

Morning Grounding Ritual
Starting each day with a grounding practice that centers and aligns you. Before you reach for your phone, before your intake any information. It can be as simple as five minutes of mindful breathing, gazing out the window, lighting a candle to set an intention for energy of the day. These small but sacred actions allow you to start your day with purpose, connecting inward before engaging with the external world.

Sacred Pauses
Throughout your day, carve out intentional moments to check in with yourself. Step outside for fresh air, make a ritual of making yourself a meal, or take a moment to do a Sun A or just a forward fold. These small rituals act as a reset button, breaking the cycle of busyness and re-centering you during moments of transition or stress.

Evening Reflection Ritual
At the close of each day, create space for release and reflection. Cleanse your environment (with palo santo or even by tidying up, make your space ready to receive you for the next day), review the day’s experiences, and let go of what no longer serves you. I like to envision the good parts of my day. And maybe even write a gratitude list. This practice brings a sense of intentional closure, helping you feel complete and clear before resting.

Each of these rituals creates a container—one that holds, supports, and mirrors your journey, inviting dynamic wholeness into every part of your life. Enjoy.

PRACTICE TO CREATE
SPACE IN THE MIND

I wanted to create this 2 1/2 minute exercise focused on discomfort and our ability to sit within it— to breathe within it. By doing this we create more internal space.

I invite you to take a couple moments to remind yourself of your strength and power. So when life feels uncomfortable and overwhelming you can remember this exercise and pull yourself back to presence.
