February Union

UNION (verb)

- the action or fact of joining or being joined

- a state of harmony or agreement

- a club, or association formed by people with a common interest or purpose

To integrate all parts of ourselves at ALL times is difficult.

Especially in a world where we have endured widespread trauma, collectively and individually over the last year. We are approaching 1 year since our world first shut down. Since COVID-19 ran rampant through our lives and caused us to stop, pause, pivot, begin again. Again and again. We have been reflecting. All the loss. All the mystery. All the victories.

We are ready to start to see and nourish the parts of ourselves that got put on the shelf along the way.

One of those things: our Union classes.

Our Union classes are a call to our community to see and support a cause within our community (body of people and/or locationally).

the Union is donation based, the proceeds go towards the chosen cause within our Community.

Joining those who are struggling within our community that we live in together.

Taking good care of ourselves, and those around us.

When you’re a part of something bigger than you, giving back, contributing, linking together with other people, with a common purpose, it ignites within you a purpose that only this work will give access to.

Together, we will see it through.

We have two Union classes to add to your schedule:

February 24th
930am with Kelli McMullen

the Cause: UrbanZone

UrbanZone, the youth and wellness arm of Synergy Health Center has been in operation since 2016 working diligently to have an impact on youth and families by providing educational and parental support, utilizing performing arts opportunities to middle and high school students and most importantly providing mental health support to elementary age students.

UrbanZone learning takes a holistic approach to meet the needs of each student as they are communicated and discovered. Programs  and activities are made available for students to participate in addressing their emotional, physical, intellectual, and social well being. Yoga and meditation are being offered to teach mindfulness, confidence and empowerment through movement, voice, sharing and reflection. One of our incredible tribe members, Kimberly Brown, facilitates these classes for them.

We are partnering with and raising funds for UrbanZone to helps them continue the good work they are doing in the mental health arena.

March 20th
930am with Liv Monte

the Cause: YouthWorks

YouthWorks-Detroit (YWD) unites diverse people to holistically support Detroit city’s youth through focused prayer, intentional after-school programming, and committed mentoring relationships. A long time friend of Liv’s, Kyle Cascarelli, is the Executive Director of this organization. Despite the chaos of the last year, the staff at YWD have remained committed to being present in the lives of their youth. With the need for programs like this being greater than ever, we are looking to raise funds to ensure they can continue to provide a space where young people can be supported, encouraged, and empowered.

Sign up on Mindbody required to hold a spot. Baseline donation of $15.

Know your intent, step forward. Step in.

Thank you for partnering with us. We can’t wait.

WORKSHOP

M A R C H I N G INTO M E D I T A T I O N

The Inward Journey | begins March 6th

Most of us are living in a constant rush: Go, go, go. Always future focused, and rarely receiving the present moment.  It’s loud.

The mind is filled with the voices and perspectives of others. It’s blurry.

There is friction.  This is our disconnected self.

To find calm within the chaos, we need to practice spending time with the quiet of our own mind.

Discovery awaits.

Within ourselves, we have an unending source of peace, calm, understanding, acceptance, and relief.

Where we feel grounded. It’s stable. It’s clear.  We are in flow.

This is our connected self. But we shift between the calm and the chaos.

A forgetting and a remembering. A disconnection and a reunion with the self.

What matters is the return. We do this by embarking on the Inward Journey repeatedly.

We don’t need to DO more. We need to BE more.

We need to just be still and take time to observe your inner world.

Now more than ever, it is vital we take time to experience the power of meditation.

Join me, join your Space community, join yourself on the journey of turning Inward.

4 weeks — Saturday’s in March
12:30p-2:30p

What you should know about the beautiful sacred wood.

We burn Palo at the Space during classes, and wanted to share where it originated from. When we are educated we can set intention behind all things we do. It’s important to know why we are doing what we are doing.

Palo santo is a tree that is native to Peru. For thousands of years the wood (also comes in resin and oil form) has been used as a ritualistic practice. Palo Santo means “holy wood” in the Spanish language. Utilizing Palo as a cleansing and healing modality started in Peru all the way back to the Incan Empire. Shamans would utilize the wood in ceremonies and rituals as it was believed that the smoke it created would result in protection against evil spirits. Indigenous people later utilized it for its specific scent as well as the belief in the healing powers of it.

As we utilize this sacred wood, may you remember the beauty rituals hold. Allow yourself to use it as a holy offering of presence, reconnecting to the here and now, to ground you, to cleanse. You decide but— decide. Do it. Let it serve you. To bring you back.
