Beneath Your Busy
I have a confession...
In January and February I was secretly wishing for a snow day. I didn’t go as far as wearing my jammies inside out but I was longing to have a pause in the crazy. A shift of sorts...a severing from the normal chaotic pace. I was waiting for the school system to tell me it was okay to take a break.
Who are you beneath the blanket of busy we all seem to carry around with us?
How are you meeting yourself these days? I am connecting with myself in a different way without a schedule that rules me. The new me I am meeting has little to do with my outside appearance.
I love the lyrics in the song Beneath Your Beautiful,
“You couldn’t stop if you tried it/You’ve built your wall so high that no one could climb it- but I’m gonna try/Would you let me see beneath your beautiful, would you let me see beneath your perfect”
For me I am choosing to meet myself daily with an agenda that is more expansive. I am reuniting and remembering what my preferences are instead of obligations. I am giving myself permission to move slower and more intentional. I am learning to pause long enough to connect with others when I feel inspired instead of being responsible for someone’s emotions.
Busy... an overrated addiction most of us participate in. How do we stop, how could we say NO... our kids are committed to a certain activity, we begin to think “this is my job...people are counting on me...it’s just easier for me to do myself than to delegate”. These are just a few of the “conversations” we entertain. What if busy is a choice. What if it is something we pick to avoid dealing with ourselves. Some of us are feeling a new level of pressure, and I feel like ALL of us are being forced to find a new normal different from what we once knew.
I have been loving creating new rituals around our home. Slow mornings with lots of coffee, sleeping in, deep connection with my Ted, sitting on the couch and watching shows with my family, making homemade food, working out in my jammies, optional showers, make-up free, sitting long enough to let myself stare, face masks, writing notes, journaling, burning candles/incense/palo, face timing, and walking in nature. Learning a new way when granted with the shift from busy to stay home/stay safe. I have been repeating in my mind that all things that are unfolding to me/us are ultimately FOR us. It is in the unknown, the new way, that we find a deeper understanding and a sense of coming alive. Let’s open our hands to this unique experience that is ours to hold.
“She lets go of one life, only to enter another. Clarity dwindles and is then birthed again. Creativity dies and returns from its ashes. Love fades and blossoms passionately once more. Pain loosens its grip only for her wounds to re-open. To truly live means to embrace and withstand new beginnings, scary endings, and all the meaningful stuff in between over and over again. Whether it’s mundane or magical, heaven or hell, is up to you.” Tanya Markul
Until the day we get to embrace each other again...I love you...I miss you...I am with you.
