The Season of Shifting

September Reflections by
Nicki Churchill

September has always been my favorite time of year. The air feels lighter and I feel myself come alive in the crispness of the season. All of my children are fall babies, so this time of year also carries a sweetness—a sense of beginnings, of celebrating life, of remembering how much joy can be found in change.

Author Hannah Rowe describes September as the friend who encourages fresh starts, celebrates your wins, and reminds you that beginnings can also hold nostalgia. That feels exactly right.

September holds the joy of celebration, the beauty of transition, and the quiet wisdom that change can be gentle if we allow it.

It’s also the month, one year ago, that I began my yoga teacher training journey here at The Space. Walking in last fall, I couldn’t have imagined how much this studio, this practice, and this community would shape me. In the same way that September sits between seasons—honoring what has been while reaching toward what’s next—yoga has taught me to sit with the in-between. To notice the pauses, the transitions, and the places where growth feels both uncomfortable and alive.

And this September is even more special: it’s the birthday of The Space itself. This studio has become more than just a place to move. It’s a gathering ground for beginnings, for dreams, for those quiet shifts that change everything. Just as September is the friend who cheers you on and reminds you of what’s possible, The Space has been that friend to me—and, I hope, to all who walk through its doors.

So this month, I’m celebrating. The birthdays of my children. The anniversary of my own journey as a teacher. The birthday of The Space, where so much has blossomed. And September herself, who continues to remind me that the beauty of life is found not only in what’s ahead, but also in savoring the richness of right now.

To The Space, and to everyone who fills it with energy, warmth, and courage—thank you. Thank you for being a place where we can breathe, explore, stumble, and grow together. Thank you for holding beginnings with gentleness and for making transitions less lonely. You are, without question, one of the best friends September could have ever introduced me to.

I love you,

Nicki

MUSIC

by Mini McCabe

September has a way of feeling like a gentle reset—school routines return, the air shifts, and we’re caught between summer’s warmth and autumn’s calm. This playlist is made to match that in-between space: chill, cozy, and easy on the heart.

Enjoy it when you’re driving across town, putting your house back in order now that the kiddos are back in school, or savoring those last sun-soaked evening walks. However you listen, friends, let it be your soundtrack for easing into the season with a little more lightness, a little more softening, a little more tenderness <3
